Organizational History

Operating under the strong belief that more could be done to support the work of spreading the Gospel and medical ministries in remote areas around the world, Davis Goodman founded Harvester’s International Mission in 1984.

With qualifications that include an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with single and multi-engine jet-aircraft ratings, a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Technology and a PhD in Aerospace Business Development, Davis Goodman is especially equipped and qualified for the task.

Davis Goodman, founder of Harvester’s International Mission, served 24 years in the United States Air Force and flew over 11,000 hours including 113 combat missions during the Vietnam War. During his military service, he received 33 decorations and awards, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and 6 Air Medals.

In 1975, Davis Goodman founded The Missionary Aviation Training Institute for the purpose of training missionary aviation pilots and mechanics. The flight training includes flight and classroom instruction up through the commercial and instrument pilot, bush and mountain flying techniques. All training is in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Graduates of Harvester’s Missionary Aviation Institute have gone on to serve with Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF), Associated Baptist for World Evangelism (ABWE), New Tribes Mission (NTM), United Indian Mission (UIM), and other mission organizations.

The aviation graduates are highly dedicated and qualified in pilot and mechanical skills. They are eager to serve as missionary pilots and/or mechanics in evangelical, church planting, medical, emergency airlift and other missionary aviation ministries. Each serves with the ultimate purpose of reaching people living in remote areas of the world with the Gospel and medical support.

Harvester’s International Mission works in a cooperative spirit with Samaritans Purse, The Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE), Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), New Tribes Mission (NTM), United Indian Mission (UIM), Jungle Aviation and Radio Service (JAARS) and Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Harvester’s International Mission has helped to provide aircraft for missionary pilots in Mexico, Central America (Guatemala), South America (Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru), West Africa (Togo), Papua, New Guinea, and the Pacific Islands of Truk. Maintaining a flight schedule of between 40-50 hours a month, missionary pilots and medical teams are typically able to provide spiritual and physical assistance to approximately 800
people per month.
